Writer / Director

As a writer with a strong sense of genre and world building, James has written scripts which have attracted both local and international attention. He has had scripts make the semifinals and quarterfinals of the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting (run by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences).

James’ feature film directing debut will be from his screenplay, Latency. Filmed in Bangkok November-December 2022, will have a theatrical release in North America in June 14th, 2024. Latency stars Sasha Luss and Alexis Ren.


James’ short film, Shift, which he wrote, directed and produced was screened at over twenty film festivals worldwide, including Palm Springs, Cinequest and Raindance. Shift has won multiple awards including Best Australian Film at Sandfly Film Festival, Best Sci-Fi at Reale Film Festival and Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy at Monza Film Fest and Hollywood Blood Horror Festival where James also won Best First Time Director. Among many individual accolades, Shift has won two ACS awards (Australian Cinematography Society) and the Australian Production Design Guild award for design on a short film. A feature version of the film is currently in development.

James has a Master of Arts from the Australian Film, Television & Radio School (AFTRS).
